must say it, if not I will feel very bad: SHIT! THURSDAY GOT CHEM RETEST!

another anime series I may be picking up if I have the time. it is called The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, or simply Haruhi.

if I pick this up too, I will be watching 3 ongoing series and 1 completed series. so far, I have Bleach, Welcome To The NHK and Mahou Sensei Negima. no one can have too much anime, especially when you have 480GB of combined space with 300GB unused =D

one of the spoofs of the dance I found on youtube. some otaku actually slowly modelled these gundam models, frame by frame, after the "Haruhi dance" as it is commonly known. you can easily find more if you run a search on that term.

the following is something totally unrelated to Haruhi. ladies should learn to do what the monkey in the video did when you see evil dogs indecently exposing themselves. guranteed to cause that dog to suffer like 365 continuous days of PMS put into a day.

see! a new post okay!

since I cant drag my lazy ass to go take those damn photos out of the phone and post them up, lets have a filler for the time being!

talking about fillers, narutards have got another season of fillers to sit through, making it one and a half years of bullshit in naruto anime! pierrot pwnz joo! n00bs! *hides underground to prevent getting hit by stones from narutards*

==

ahem. but that is besides the point.

I went for dinners for the two consecutive saturdays. the one last week is of the son of the boss of the biggest biscuit factory in singapore (Kong Guan?) at Pan-Pacific Hotel.

the one today is a typical "eating table" kinda dinner while this guy in front auctions some stuff to help raise money for the temple at the same time. this usually happens on temporary tentages in open grounds near their temple and HDB flats. those who are Budtaoism may have went to one before.

but both are special in their own ways.

==

the Pan-Pacific dinner isnt the grandest I attended so far. I attended one at Raffles The Plaza (one of the top hotels in SG) that is much more grand and they invited like 1100 guests (110 tables).

this one however, lacked the atmosphere somehow. think it is because most of the people there do not understand english. both hotels' waiters' and waitresses' service are still splendid nevertheless.

however, Pan-Pacific waitresses are younger and chioer. luckily, the nicest-looking ones are serving my area! I wanted to share my joy with you all, but I am humji civic minded and understood the importance of obtaining permission for a photo or it will be an infringement of privacy and may cause great emotional distress to the victim.

unfortunately it seems one of those girls have a romantic relationship with the guy that is serving my table. the way they fool around with each other between courses distracts me.

==

today also have radical change.

usually this kind of "eat table" affair the waitresses are those middle-age aunties. but this time, other than middle-age aunties, there are teenagers too!

it is kinda shocking you see. after attending such stuff ever since I remember, it is the first time I know there are teenagers who are willing to work in such events, without aircon and incredibly stressful (each waitress serve as much as 3 tables)

the person serving my table is a teenage guy. he plays a lot of basketball. he is tanned. I heard other teenage waitresses saying he is shuai. I should stop eavesdropping so much.

==

lets stop talking about girls so much. I think I would have left a very bad impression on someone's mind today. that person should contact me directly on MSN and not drop a tag on the tagboard regarding this before another rumour about me starts flying around.

never knew you had three boyfriends (counting the current one) anyway. HAHA!

==

what else can I talk about? oh, results.

okay lah, the year in review, for the amount of work I did so far, I thought such results are reasonable enough.

chemistry and mathematics continues to be my weakest link. unfortunately, they are the most important. I passed my chemistry rather miraculously, while I failed both maths.

I gotta go for retests for A Maths and Chemistry. even though I passed chemistry, science department wants those who barely passed to retake an exam. more post EOY mugging. man.

I improved in my languages, and I intend to keep it up since it is an essential component in any career.

my humanities are still well taken care of, despite worries that I may fail geography, it turns out it is more than enough.

dropped further back in level position. the only thing that can make the reverse happen is my maths.

haha. say like never say like that. give you all more solid answers lah. class position is 8/37 and level is 89/200. should appease all the competitive people now.

==

condensed timetable begins next monday. back to the square one of lessons, homework, sleep. O levels are drawing near. it is less than a year now.

wonder if I will be prepared in time for O Levels. testing everything that happened this year on top of additional stuff from next year in one exam sounds real creepy to me. what if I suffer from memory block from the overload of information? *shivers*

Area 51 - 19/10 - Thursday

Thursday, October 19, 2006

P.S. After reading through this post, this sounds like some speech made by the top scholar of Harvard on graduation day. though this incident is far from being jovial.

after a gruelling two days plus, the ordeal is finally over.

it involves an expensive property of the school that went missing, with me being last spotted with it according to a particular teacher's account.

it may sound real short, but this is the biggest disaster that I had met with in a long time. the first that involved a police report, in fact.

along the way, I met quite a few discpline and IT department teachers, not to mention some of the members of the School Steering Committee.

I am thrown with threats, warnings and well-meaning advice from them throughout this few days, not to forget the many statements made.

sounds very exaggerated? but it is true.

I apologise for the fact that I cannot delve into further details due to the unique nature of this incident. as to how this thing ended, no, it is not money, we are not that well-off, nor is it force. what is it, I will leave it to think about it yourselves (or maybe just dont think about it)

==

still, I would like to thank quite a few people who helped me out through this difficult journey.

firstly, my parents who helped me out tremendulously throughout. they really went out of their way to help me out. my parents even made time to visit the school, at a financial loss, in the afternoons... twice, hoping to find the principal. even if they failed to, their presence certainly helped in the resolution of this matter

next are the ex-SPOD Crew, especially Minglyanna. dont know if you will see this, but thanks for being so patient and traced events that happened to the best of your memory. jolynn, chong keng and phyo (and perhaps many others) as well, for some of their accounts. the school probably wouldnt have trusted me without these.

also, my aunt, a qualified counselor, who took quite some time to help me with the recalling of the events that unfolded, especially considering that I am only a nephew to her.

not to forget, the many of you, who had given me moral support to persevere on. yuling, jasper (a sec 2 actually), ying sheng, zhe peng, phyo, perry, alicia, "someone who cares" and pamela, just to name some. thanks guys, I really appreciate that.

==

again, I am glad everything is over. these things will become part of my memory as I leave them all typed out in a password-protected Word document. a small figment of the troubles of my teenage years as I think back many years later.

WARNING: This post is less explicit than the first Inbox post today. BUT it is Singapore NC16 standard. So if you are particularly emo or easily horny, dont read it.

another Inbox post. this is from Kennysia.com's "Win a LG White Chocolate" contest.

before you fanatics jump at it, it is a contest for Malaysians only since delivery is limited to Malaysia. tough luck.

this post is ridden with spelling mistakes and is typed in caps all the way without spacing. he must be real desperate. all I did was to seperate them into paragraphs.

but then it seems sometimes things I find funny are not funny for you all, so well, if it isnt funny. try to be less sarcastic on the tagboard.

WARNING: Not for those used to Singapore-styled censoring or for those whose minds operates below 18 years old.

some dessert before an Area 51 post.

caught this off HardwareZone Forums just now. do watch the video first before proceeeding with the post for some surprise and suspense.

as famous AhBing once said, Singapore protected its citizens well with its high profile censoring of films and printed media. other than gore, it protected us from, well.... artistic humour.

so, lets watch an artistically humourous film by Japan then! do note this is shown on their TV (in wee hours of morning I suppose). if this is shown on singapore TV I will chop.... something!

ANOTHER WARNING: In Singapore, this would definitely get at least an M18 rating. but this is deskoh91's blog, where ratings dont exist. so well =)

(first Area 51 post since the start of this sorting system)

okay I cant say much about the current issue here but, I just wanna talk about it. so this would basically become quite an unreadable post unless you know what is the issue at hand.

damn, the fucking school is unreasonable. according to what I gathered so far, this thing happened so friggin way back and now then you all realise and bring it up? what the fuck man!

and even though I told you all I dont know, you all refused to believe and even laughed at it. one of them even fucking threatened to call the police and shit talk about ruining my future and stuff.

do you all have a fucking problem with believing that I really do not recall? and the two fucking assholes who caused me to have a problem with the school last time are back again to screw up this event even further!

why the hell do you all all believe that bloody woman, some more just beacuse she claimed I am the one? and now I have the shoulder all this shit.

this may very likely end up as a police case though, so wish me luck, my friends. I am not joking about it.

ExamNoMeter: What is it? Can eat one?

CME and Geography Paper 1 flew by too!

Geography Paper 1 is well, easier than expected. more than half the questions come from TYS, which I practised on. but then i dont have answer key, so I can only hope the answers I chose are really correct =X

the CME paper today is also the most challenging one I done till date, so bad that I dont know how to answer a few of them. good job there methias! you would be the HOD of CME in no time (if there is such a department, that is)

so this post will end this series of EOY06 posts. thus I will do a quick post-exam review.

==

overall, this exam, I aced some while I lost some, with the latter being on the higher side.

one of it is the E Maths Paper 2. I totally underestimated it. I cannot even do the algebra question since I cannot form a proper equation! there are also many thinking questions which I am infamously bad at.

Geography Paper 2 is more of a disappointment. I studied long and hard for it, only to forget many of the things I learnt in a moment of blind panic and memory block.

English Oral too. I always thought languages were one of my trump cards, but the Picture Discussion changed my view. I am still extremely bad at descriptive stuff and I can never use my rather-vast vocabulary appropriately. I got to work harder to strive for an A.

Biology however, is the opposite. despite the short span of time I spent on preparation, (I only started after Chemistry paper) it turns out that I have, once again, spotted the right questions, of course with the help of some hints. thanks madam soh.

Chemistry is also quite shitty as well. everyone found the paper easy except me. I am just not built for subjects requiring heavy understanding I suppose.

Chinese is a mixed bag. it has one of the best essays I wrote, but the comprehension was so-so. just give me a low A lah. come on.

==

after the review-that-is-not-really-a-review, my only hope is that I could get promoted to Secondary 4 Express. if I am dropped to Secondary 4 NA or even being retained, it might just be too much for me to bear.

Setting the facts straight about the national wireless broadband service

Further Reading: Click Here

==

just in case you all thought the service is like the thing next to heaven, now is the time to come back to earth and see the other side of the service. the things the government dont want you to know.

so my dream of not paying for wireless is not coming true after all =(

==

excerpts of article:

"There are no official statistics on the percentage of land area in Singapore that will be covered by the Wireless@SG project, but based on my rough estimation from looking at the maps, I think not even 40 percent of the island is covered. "

"Users will be able to gain free wireless access for at least two years for a basic 512kbps line-shared access. There will be a premium service which the operators can charge a fee. After the two or three years of free access, the operators no longer have an obligation to provide free access. The technology will be Wi-Fi, not WiMax."

it also shows slamming between MediaCorp Press and Singapore Press Holdings. notice this line. (Oo Gin Lee is a New Paper tech reporter) .

"So headlines from the Today newspaper Singapore, one giant hotspot is totally off the mark. The Straits Times Free wireless Net access at public areas from next year is a lot more accurate. "

dEsKOh91 v8.0

Wednesday, October 11, 2006

lets all welcome this super-orangey-and-unbleached blogskin!

I know v7.0 is only used for a very short time only, but then I had enough of button-based skins since it feels very constrained. the old skin is also very black and white and a bit overly bleachy.

I chose v8.0 with the aim of bright colours and to avoid idolism-styled skins. this is the one I finally decided on since I thought the picture above is quite nice and the orange feels so refreshing. hah.

once again I did my signature mini adjustments, which are usually unnoticeable unless you are free enough to compare the original and mine.

other than that I added Bing Cheng in the links. his blog is a great read. full of pictures. I shall start stuffing my posts with pictures too. hehe.

All Singaporeans to enjoy free wireless broadband access in public areas for 2 years

Asha Popatlal, Channel NewsAsia
10 October 2006 2035 hrs

SINGAPORE: From January next year, all Singaporeans will get to enjoy free wireless Internet in public areas for two years.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong shared this and other initiatives at a dinner marking 25 years of infocomm achievements.

Mr Lee also painted a vision where IT businesses can grow and jobs created as Singaporeans get wired island-wide.

To make sure no one is left behind, he said money is going to be pumped in to help three groups - needy students, the disabled and the elderly get onto this IT journey.

For many Singaporeans, whether at work or play, their lifestyle - from using cell phones to instant messaging - is already digital.

The government wants to take one step further and make it all mobile.

So, from January 2007, it will be rolling out wireless broadband Internet in all public spaces, called Wireless@SG, for free, for the first two years.

Premium and higher access speeds will also be immediately available - but this will come at a fee.

"Thereafter, access is expected to remain highly affordable. So, with just your laptop or PDA, you can enjoy high speed connection to the Internet, send out instant messages and check emails and even make VOIP (voice-over-IP) calls," said Mr Lee.

Singaporeans will be able to surf all over downtown, major town centres, recreational areas like East Coast Park, and maybe even at libraries and fast food outlets.

Three operators - iCELL network, QMax Communications and SingTel - have been appointed to do this.

They will carve out the island into three areas, and complete their deployment by end-September next year.

The government hopes this will grow the broadband market from the current 50,000 users to about 250,000 users in two years.

Business-wise, a new office has been created to drive R&D in the field of Interactive and Digital Media, one of three new areas of development for the Singapore economy.

The aim is to create 10,000 more new jobs by 2015 and contribute $10m to the economy, up from the $3.8m contributed in 2003.

It will target niche areas like creating games, which is already a multi-million dollar industry, within an Asian context,

"It was a leap of faith into the unknown when we took the infocomm plunge in 1981. The lesson from the last 25 years is that we must continue to track closely the changes around us and respond promptly when opportunities emerge. By the time a trend becomes obvious to everyone, we may have already missed the train," said Mr Lee.

Mr Lee noted that many global IT companies are already here whilst opportunities are now opening up in the region.

He said IDA will support promising local enterprises to grow globally and to build capabilities to deliver large-scale projects.

As Singaporeans race forward on the IT journey, Mr Lee says special interest groups must not be left behind.

At least 14 percent of households still do not have computers.

Under an enhanced programme, at least 10,000 needy families with school-going children can look forward to getting a brand new computer for less than $300, bundled with three years of unlimited broadband access.

This programme will be co-funded by the IDA that will come up with $12m while industry partners will contribute another $19m.

Special Infocomm Accessibility Centres will be set up to train the disabled, and senior citizens will get help to click their way through the IT maze. - CNA /dt

==

given the cheapo mentality of singaporeans (me included), the supposedly "high-speed" connections will be worse than cold molasses soon enough.

the money will still come from the taxpayers anyway, namely your parents. free indeed.

anyway, does that mean I can stop paying SingTel for wireless broadband in libraries =D

E Maths is over too! now I only have the "minor" papers left. English Oral, Geography Paper 1 and CME.

E Maths paper 1 is manageable, but paper 2 is a whole load of shit. it is freaking difficult for me. probably the only questions I did properly are the graph ones.

just when I thought I could pass.

==

tomorrow English oral under Adrian Chia. hopefully Chia wouldnt be very strict. I feel my english oracy skills has made a turn for the worse after this slate of exams.

they annouced Register Number 1 to 12 will have their orals starting 11am, but what about the rest of us? still start at 8.30am is it?

better check or I have to find ways to waste 3 hours.

I guess I better spend some time scanning through marianne chong tomorrow so that I know something for paper 1. did quite bad for paper 2 already. if still screw up paper 1 really finished.

generally the paper still not bad lah. all my studying paid off. and so does the tips given. lets all thank mdm soh for it!

==

tomorrow E Maths liaoz. another weaker subject. I see the amount of notes I feel like fainting. zz. some more shyam never say is closer to 2004 or 2005 standard, very hard to gauge.

really hope I will pass this. my maths has been rotting in the pits for so long. time to bring it up! I can do it!

ExamNoMeter: 4 Days

time flies. the ExamNoMeter started like two weeks ago and now the exams is in its final (and longest) stretch before it all ends.

actually exam periods are good. school ends incredibly early and there is no homework. if you are the kind who revises regularly (not me), it is probably the best time of the year.

but then my brain and work attitude makes it impossible for me to achieve that. sigh...

==

chemistry is over too! another difficult subject down! pretty disappointed in general since I failed to memorise the anions tests and mole concept well, which has turned out to become super-duper-incredibly-extremely-antagonisingly important.

and so I lost a lot of marks. *prays really hard that I will not fail*

not much to talk about for chemistry actually, apart from the fact that paper 1 is super hard and paper 2 is easier. miss liao liao (singlish for finished) really made me finished this time.

==

biology tomorrow leh! shit lah. got like one gazillion load of shitty things to memorise. I think I will be really braindead by tomorrow.

3/3 and 3/4 people no need go school tomorrow since physics is on thursday (when I take my english oral). so they got one extra day for E Maths. damn.

but then my exam ends earlier! lalalalala~~ but got nothing to do with that extra day also leh. zzz.

Life - 6/10 - Friday

this week isnt very fruitful, maybe except on the academic aspect since half of this week is taken up by exams.

with two contextual knowledge intensive humanities paper back to back and a subject which I am worse at, made worse by the fog and the coffee (which I will get into), my brain feels half dead by today.

exams is already covered in the EOY posts so they will not be covered here.

==

I am also in some kind of trauma this week thanks to coffee.

on the day before Combined Humanities, I drank like two cups of instant coffee.

it is damn effective, indeed, I didnt sleep. but I am having difficulties breathing and feeling extremely bloated as well. it was like 1+ before I slept.

the next day go see doctor (twice). the coffee made my stomach 生风. so I am feeling bloated and cannot breathe. because of my parents' kanchiongness, I had to go twice since they see no improvements after my first dose of the medicine.

I havent recovered yet, even till now. good gracious.

==

the damn haze is super bad now. they say it is 52 at 4pm yesterday. I dont believe. even the day when it was 73 wasnt this bad.

now it is worse, the burnt smell is super strong on my side. my difficulty in breathing is worsened thanks to it.

what the hell man, burn forests to make land fertile and let old land fallow I know (thanks to geog). but please be considerate lah. weak people like me is suffering leh!

everytime got major exam I fall sick, like this year after mid-year I had freaking bad sore throat that lasted two weeks plus followed by a cough that only recovered recently followed by this difficulty in breathing. how unlucky.

==

cant think of anything more now. signing off. *cough cough* stupid haze.

ExamNoMeter: 7 Days (w00t!)

Additional Mathematics is over! one of my biggest nightmares over and done with!

there is a chance of passing, but it seems rather slim. well, at least it wouldnt be a very bad fail. or at least I hope so.

next is Chemistry. I would do a bit of all the "major" papers next week this weekend, especially biology given its heavy reliance on contextual knowledge.

==

time flies. I had taken exams in Hall five times already! this means I have completed about half the exams!

since its the weekend, lets discuss some stuff regarding the times spent in this extremely big function room with super strong lights.

- freaking cold airconditioning (that it is supposed to be)

the school is being giam siap. like today, the aircon only on till about 9.30am (the paper ends at 10.30am). it is obvious since the aircon makes a whining sound which is clearly audible (but not disturbing).

- the Chief Presiding Examiner (CPE)

as I mentioned, she is Mdm Qin WW. since she teaches chinese, her english is not very good. here are some of the classic quotes.

- (every exam so far) please hand in your used / unused 的 paper.

- (A Maths paper today) tie your scripts together with the string. you can use a pen and pok a hole through the graph paper.

- (on first day, chi paper). you are dismissed. *everyone stands up and get ready to leave* wait! did I say you can go yet?

- Combined Humanities paper

the paper chloe png set (History section) has this particularly interesting source in the Source Based Question section on Stalin's Five Year Plans for USSR (now Russia)'s economic development.

"I love Stalin. Bury him here as soon as possible." - message engraved on a kulak's tombstone.

the way this is phrased sounds a bit humourous. especially on the part where he loves Stalin. this motivated shawn to draw a picture of a tombstone with the words on it.

ExamNoMeter: 8 Days

combined humanities over liao. not bad lah. I did the question on War in Europe despite only studying it at the 15 minutes break some more. haha!

thanks to all who gave me hints! chloe png, hwee shi, shawn, and of course A. leong!

wouldnt say the paper is difficult if you studied enough. but the amount you have to write is atrociously long. can feel my veins aching after the two papers.

good thing I had time to spare. SS finished just when Qin WW (the CPE or Chief Presiding Examiner) say time's up! and finished History when she say Five Minutes Left!

tomorrow Additional Mathematics. somehow something tell me that I may very well fail it once again. cant be helped lah.

I swear I will do a lot of Additional Mathematics revision during this end of year holidays and prevent the need to drop the subject.

why I suddenly changed my mind? I am reminded that I will get an O Level Certificate for the exam, and with only seven subjects on it, it is obvious I dropped a subject and it will follow me till I die.

so I shall try to do well enough to be reflected on that laminated piece of paper with Cambridge and MOE logo called a Certificate.

oh well. thats life.

tomorrow finally can have a small break before the three "major" papers (Chem, Bio, E Maths) and "minor" ones (Geog P1, CME, Eng Oral).

cant wait for next week to end!

ExamNoMeter: 9 Days

damn, the exams are beginning again. and this time round are all the subjects you had to study for. damn...

today is geography paper 2. memorised a lot for this test. so much that my head is already hurting despite exams starting for such a short time only.

in my own opinion, it is badly done. I should have paid some attention back to the earlier chapters. because that is what I mainly did.

in all that panic I am having a memory block and I am unable to do the Weathering question, even though the exact same graph is in the guidebook.

luckily I identified the vegetation properly (Temperate Deciduous and Coniferous) not like mx. he probably is banging his head on some table in anger now.

so I ended up doing Question 1, 2, 3 and 4 and ended up drawing 5 diagrams or so since their favourite line is "With the aid of well-labelled diagrams, explain..."

I better dont do this badly for other papers.

==

the paper is set by Rosmiliah and Gerald. quite an interesting combination. the paper is not exactly super hard, but my weak brain just cannot handle remembering so much.

or it may just be my lousy studying methods.

tomorrow is combined humanities. another test full of memorising. shit.
