I just did this online personality test. it is, surprisingly, excruciatingly accurate. especially the descriptions of the personality type.

the multiple intelligences one dont seem that much right though. I am definitely logical, but I am nowhere near mathematical (they are under the same heading).

you all try it and post the results on your blogs as well leh. then I can know you all better or something. lol.

Inbox: Funny Thailand Commercials

Thursday, September 06, 2007

seen the Anything/Whatever commercial shown on TV occasionally nowadays? if you thought that was refreshing, that is actually how most Thailand TV ads are. here are some of the better ones below.

do you think Singapore ads can ever be done this way without drawing criticism from the general public? there are people complaining about the Okamoto condom ads on trains already, if something like those in Marie France Bodyline appears... sheesh.

of course another factor to consider if the local ad agencies can have such creativity. I eagerly anticipate the arrival of that day.

oh, most of the videos load amazingly quickly (except the yellow pages because of its larger size) on my side. think it would be the same for most of you too.

enough of talking. here we go. credits to the original poster in HardwareZone for all the digging, and me for reformulating the codes to work with the blog and the uncreative taglines.

==

some random Thai bank. personally find this the funniest of all.

a beer commercial.

"Cheers" beer ad. probably infamous by now.

from the "cashier" in the Anything/Whatever commercial found in Singapore.

the Health Promotion Board of Thailand gets their message across really differently compared to our own.

Marie France Bodyline. it sure brought its message across, though in a very wrong way. criticism would run rampant if it ever got onto our TV screens.

A ceiling brand commercial involving two lizards falling flat onto a chessboard.

another Marie France Bodyline. this is much less insulting than the previous one though.

Gatsby-wannabe, Thailand edition.

an energy drink. that guy sure had plenty of energy.

a telecom company in Thailand.

a chewing gum commercial.

thai yellow pages. what a twist.

some spray that prevents smell in shoes.

another variant of the same energy drink once again based on multitasking.

dEsKOh91 VX: Improvements

Wednesday, September 05, 2007

I had been hard at work squashing all those irritating bugs from VX. and am glad to annouce that most of them are gone by now.

what made debugging this time round so difficult:

1) I strived to maintain compatibility towards Internet Explorer 6 AND 7 and Firefox. thus I hopped between my desktop and laptop to check the results of the change constantly.

2) this blogskin was styled through CSS (cascading style sheets, not the school), a first for me. I spent much time researching the various codes that I could use.

3) it is the tenth blogskin of this blog after all. I tend to follow the original design really closely previously, but with this one, I wanted to make sure more parts of it is really mine.

the bugs that are found and removed:

1) aligned the two sidebars (one housing friends and reads list and the other for tagboard and archive). one used to be uplifted relative to the other if seen through IE6. fixed through a change to "float:right".

2) with that previous problem solved, there came a new problem of broken gray background borders in Firefox, so I made the entire background gray to make it "disappear" in a sense.

3) I straightened the top title bar. there used to be a disalignment near the middle. fixing this took the most time. the culprit turns out to be with the "h1" table section.

and finally, cosmetic improvements:

1) the title bar was improved customised with different fonts and sizes, the original design had an extremely blocky title and a way too small sub-title.

2) personal links section at the top right hand corner of the dark gray area. easy access to my future photo album. also in case I have an entire "deskoh91 network" next time or something.

3) many more tiny touches that will satisfy the perfectionist in me, but are probably too minute to be noticed by anyone else.

why did I type this out? no idea, probably to tell me if you found more bugs. if you are using Opera and there are more problems, use Firefox or IE instead. I cant possibly spend another day on this after using nearly six hours combined solving everything listed here.

I dont really want to dedicate the first post under the VX branding to this but well... this just came to me. I was digging through a senior's blog just now when I came across the term Knismolagnia.

bet many of you dont know what it means. I didnt till a while ago too. it is another term for arousal from tickling. thus, I am reminded of an accuastion this morning of me committing statutory rape for tickling a 14 year old.

hey, all I did was tickle the alleged victim in a manner totally unrelated to any form of sexual connotation.

I went to do some searching. turns out there are laws at 12, 14 and 16 years old. what the heck. oh, all laws below dont apply to guys. hmph. sexist.

==

1) The legal age of consent for sexual activity is sixteen (16). BUT

2) A man is said to commit 'rape' who, except in the case hereinafter, has sexual intercourse with a woman with or without consent, when she is under fourteen (14) years of age.', BUT

3) A consent is not a consentas as intended by any section of this code if the consent is given by a person who is under twelve (12) years of age.

==

first, I did not have sexual intercourse. definitely. I dont want to be wronged for such a huge crime.

second, if I did not even have sexual intercourse, it is even more unlikely I am doing it "with or without consent".

third, provided the said victim has Knismolagnia, what the heck would I be prosecuted under? the first or the second?

food for thought indeed. lol.

the change was totally random, I just thought that I had enough of that girlish-looking skin this morning and went about changing it.

and here is the end product, a more cut-down and simplistic skin for the ninth design refresh of this blog, which is over three years old by now.

I really quite like this skin because the design was really simple and clear-cut. it also meant that I have more space for my posts and whatever miscellaneous content that is supposed to appear. this is one of those skins that are impossible to be found on blogskins.com.

I am not really sure how long this skin will last, but I am pretty sure I wont change it till O Levels are over (mid-Nov).

I also added and removed some links just for the sake of it.

in case you are wondering why I removed the imeem music box, it is because imeem is total crap nowadays. most songs dont play more than 16 seconds thanks to copyright. I cant be bothered maintaing a crippled playlist.

since I had already posted so much, one more wouldnt hurt. here I shall just throw four random pictures in for the love of it. I have a commonwealth photolog ready but I am not going to post it up yet since I am lazy as usual.

this is a photo I just took from today's Sunday Times. our school was featured in the papers, talking about this ex-Commonwealthian who assisted Drama in the Esplanade performance last year. I highlighted the relevant parts in black.

I cant believe we got demoted to becoming a neighbourhood school. gosh. hey, maybe that is where we are ranked now!

this is from my mad trip to Jurong Polyclinic on Thursday, which you can read below. I saw this suspicious Kaizen room along a dark corridoor on the third storey.

doesnt it just feel mysterious? it is only after some research that I discovered Kaizen means something like making small changes to work processes to improve efficiency. basically WITs la (Work Improvement Teams. in Social Studies, remember?) say until so chim.

and below are some horny, procreating millipedes, who are now invading nearly every inch of the first level of the school.

and below are some horny dudes. lol. actually they are just fooling around.

finally I can go to sleep without being bugged by my conscience for not updating for so long.

Life

and the third and final instalment for the day. after all I spent time blogging before and after my tuition and going to grandma's house.

after updating about my memories of commonwealth, then the long-overdue prelims update, now we shall have a "normal" life post.

as you would have known from my previous post, my prelims technically lasted for three days last week. so what did I do with thursday and friday? nothing productive. as sad as I am to report that, humans shouldnt run away from reality. but this will change, as my less proficient subjects will make their appearence in prelims real soon and I really have to buck up.

but before all that, lets see what I did with my time on thursday and friday.

==

thursday was a full free day for me. I wanted to just sit at the bus stop near my house and laugh at any person I see wearing uniforms there. but, that makes me a bad neighbour and I did not forget I will be wearing a uniform, waiting for a bus at the exact same bus stop the next day, so I abandoned that idea.

I woke up at about 7am and went to Jurong Polyclinic to see a doctor about my chronic sinus that worsened last week during prelims.

I arrived at 7.35am and guess my queue number? 2039. 38 persons actually were that hardworking and perseverant to wake up earlier than 7am just to see a doctor! I concede defeat. seriously.

I bought some hot soya bean from the snack stall inside the polyclinic ($1.20! what a rip off!), since I havent had breakfast and the newly-renovated Jurong Polyclinic was pretty darned cold in the morning.

I slowly drank it as I queued for my registration, consultation, prescription and payment. fine. I finished it before consultation but never mind that okay? here we see the government indeed functions in an organised way, but we also see plenty of red tape from all that different queues. but hey, I am not complaining. at least people are queueing up and things go orderly.

here comes the problem, my mother warned me against taking their nasal spray, and so I didnt. then I paid up and left. they only issued 10 cheap $0.30 (for the entire packet, I am serious!) pills to be taken once a day.

I refuse to believe such a low dose will help my situation at all, and after confirming with my mother, there is INDEED no problem with the spray the doctor was recommending, in fact she was using it herself through a GP. and thus after breakfast with them, I went back to the polyclinic to get the spray.

I went to the registration and enquiries counter, and she advised me to just pop in and see the same doctor once a patient comes out. I was really nervous while waiting. I hoped none of the patients outside would threaten to beat me up because I "cut" their queue in a sense. good thing it didnt happen.

the doctor gave me a strange look, but issued the prescription anyway, telling me to take a queue number (oh god) at the pharmacy and to clarify the situation with them. I did that, and that meant a 20 minutes wait and 5 minutes of desperate explanation to get them to look at the prescriptions again.

I finally got that stage done and the next problem comes. the nasal spray (Flixonase, in case you are interested) is unsubsidised and will cost me $25.90.

I didnt bring enough money, since I expected the entire thing to cost less than $20, pretty typical if you are going to polyclinic for a common ailment. but I forgot mine was chronic. after a whole morning of fun with the NHG, I still cannot go home!

I called my father, who was already on his rounds for his school bus trip. I called my small uncle, who was dealing with his newspaper delivery business, I called my first uncle, who was at bedok and will take some time to come down. finally my first aunt said she could come by along the way since she had to drop by the bank. you can imagine my embarrassment at all that begging.

while waiting for her to come (it took 45 minutes or so I believe), I explored the entire Jurong Polyclinic since I cannot go out anyway. I also bought a cup of diluted milo for 50 cents at the vending machine. got ripped off by them yet again.

my aunt eventually came and I left at about 11.30am

I was rather exhausted after this farce. I watched the Campus Superstar 2007 Final finally (pun not intended) with mobtv and then fell asleep at about 4.30pm, only to wake up at 10pm. what the heck.

this taught me two things.

one, NHG dont really care if you pay up or not. they didnt even pester me to pay even though I did not join the cashier queue and was walking around with my medicine for nearly an hour after collecting them.

two, NHG earns your money not from your medicine, but from the (often mediocre) food they sell.

==

friday was a stupid short day back at school, with the "class interaction time" which was not really that interactive, considering the tables are all in exam format and even the partitions are left open.

I wrote the memories stuff that will be put in the "Heritage Room" of General Office for years to come. I finally knew what that darned dark room was for. I also voted chloe png as most caring teacher thing.

then it was off for a short recess before the teachers' day concert. settling down took 20 over minutes. no wonder they wanted everyone to assemble there at 9.20am. the programme was pretty normal, I personally thought the first few performances were poor, but it got better in the end. the programming is pretty much de facto yearly, so I shall not comment much.

then comes the fun part. the "circle" had all along decided on a study session at The Arena Country Club. trust me, even the organiser didnt know its actual name. I saw it myself when I went. but again, something just had to happen. Murphy's law I guess.

wei yao and hwee shi jio me to go back rulang. I thought since this might be the last year this could happen, I okayed it, agreeing to look for the rest later.

it was a great disappointment though. only the three of us, huiwen and shi fei turned up. the latter two eventually seperated from us and evapotranspired. we went to eat, came back, got shocked at the amount of people crowding around entrance to staff room, walked a few rounds, laughed at the paintings along the staircase we did back then in primary 4, when the school was still new, and went home.

edwin was terribly late. in fact, I only saw him when I was on my way to lakeside MRT to take bus to meet the circle. guess he repeated our procedure alone. haha.

and so I rushed to boon lay interchange to catch 193 to Upper Jurong Road. not really a long ride, though I was more busy looking for signs of where to alight than anything else.

turns out they had booked the board room for studying. talk about 大材小用. things started out slow, blasting of jay chou's 's OST's music, some crap talking and mind maps before things started going crazy as everyone started doing crazy things to pass time. I think it is the aircon there which can reach 10 degrees.

it started when one particular person began tickling me for no other reason than because the rest are not scared of it. I thus exacted my revenge by tickling that person for one full minute. at the end of it, that person was literally spasming and laughing uncontrollably that everyone present felt disturbed. the scene was totally impossible to describe I am telling you.

I would like to make it clear that I did not touch anywhere I am not supposed to touch, in case any dirty minded readers start developing intolerable ideas.

that person continued laughing for 20 minutes. serious. we used the time to prove the hypothesis that the person would start laughing when lights were dimmed. it was a fair test because it was repeated five times.

it took that person nearly 20 minutes to calm down and stop laughing.

after that everyone went to the karaoke lounge instead (still within the club) since it was on the tab. for me at least.

it is my first time going for karaoke, so the concept was rather new to me. I refuse to pick up the microphone, and many others in the circle dont like it all too much. so it ended up very much like a sing along session, but hey, it was still fun.

the music was a bizarre mix, because everyone took turns to choose the songs they want, except me of course, I wont be singing anyway. haha. there are new songs like Secret, memorable ones like At The Beginning, to the plain old like 朋友 by 周华建. I swear at one point someone nearly picked Auld Lang Syne.

and so a study session turned into a major slacking session. that was friday.

==

my saturday and sunday were comparatively normal and would be bland to talk about, considering even thursday and friday is not really that exciting to some people to begin with. so I shall end this post here.

Prelims 2007 - First week in review

I was so caught up for the past month that I did not even have time to talk about how the prelims are going individually. but I shall make up for it now, continuing my usual habit dating back to the time the I started blogging.

our school chose to have prelims with the september holidays seperating the two weeks. this is quite unconventional, since most schools choose to just start it two weeks earlier. still, I thought it is a good idea since it will be less rushed and more time to prepare.

and so, prelims begun at week 10, and so far, english, geography paper 2, combined humanities, A Maths paper 1 and mother tongue is over. of course, only the first three are of relevance to me.

lets do it subject by subject as usual. dont feel like rebranding the Examnometer and Quakeometer thing. after all it is okay as long as it serves its purpose. at least for now.

Examnometer (as of today): 12 days

==

Date: 27th August 2007, Monday
Subject: English Language Paper 1 - 1127/01
Quakeometer: 6.0

no biggie. seriously. I wrote the popular "first time cooking for family" because bullying in schools is just too overdiscussed and boring to write about and I wanted to try flexing my vocabulary ability, and what better way to do that than a descriptive-narrative?

the letter was pretty simple too, about holiday part-time jobs after O Levels, and to consult your brother on an opinion. I just hope I had done what they wanted this time round and not screw up again. zz.

==

Date: 27th August 2007, Monday
Subject: English Language Paper 2 - 1127/02
Quakeometer: 8.0

this was difficult no doubt. the comprehension questions require thinking and lifting simply dont work. not to say they could not be answered, but the chance of answering them properly enough just isnt high.

good thing the summary is much simpler. though all that planning and editing really left me with no time to do any form of checking. hope I did not make foolish mistakes.

==

Date: 28th August 2007, Tuesday
Subject: Combined Humanities Paper 1 (Social Studies) - 2190/01
Quakeometer: 7.5

another rubbishy one. it is goddamned tricky I tell you. I took a direct hit with the SEQ already. I only realised that I do not have sufficient knowledge to write 3b properly, but I had already written 3a!

SHOULD HAVE JUST WRITTEN 4 LA GOD DAMN IT. I AM DARNED PISSED I AM TELLING YOU. SHEESH. NOW THIS IS GONNA COST ME MY PRELIMS L1R5.

just had to let that out.

the SBQ were pretty difficult too, despite png's promise to make it simple. but she was the one setting after all, her easy could never be too easy. oh well.

==

Date: 28th August 2007, Tuesday
Subject: Combined Humanities Paper 3 (History Elective) - 2190/03
Quakeometer: 7.0

this was not that bad compared to social studies. at least I tried my best to interpret the Japan SEQ question differently but just dont think I am wrong about it. at least if I screw this up I know I tried my best.

SBQ was easier, except the ambiguous part a, which was a song that seemed to be praising china for all the resouces. I tried to tell if it is sarcasm, but my sixth sense told me not, and so I wrote that.

=

Date: 29th August 2007, Wednesday
Subject: Pure Geography Paper 2 - 2234/02
Quakeometer: 6.5

not that bad, not that bad. but the questions are no doubt more difficult than normal. I am much cleverer this time round, I am prepared for the Natural Vegetation question, together with Weathering, Rivers and Coasts, thus changing my combi to 3-1. that means I dont need agriculture! clever me.

actually I tried to study agriculture, but the question phrasings are odd and there is so much to remember that I wanted to kill myself. so I didnt bother and worked hard on population instead.

for actual O Levels I will definitely take a look at settlements. this time I tried too hard for agriculture and wasted valuable time.

hmm, the questions are pretty different, such as the one on coasts, asking about how the spot can be developed for tourism. population questions also did not ask about population trends in a graph and DTM, quite a change.

the questions require more thinking la, but I dont think it is really a 5 grade (out of a scale of 10) increase in standard compared to the past year prelims. or maybe it really is and I underestimated the paper, giving poor answers. lets see how things go.

==

these are all the papers I took so far, some geog paper 1 and the maths and sciences await me when term 4 starts. I hope I can manage my time well and use this time to practice (since it is essential for maths an chem) and not end up slacking.

Life - Memoirs: CSS 2004 to 2007

this post is pretty darned long, mainly so I can reminiscent the old times when I take a look back a few years later. you dont really have to read it, but you are welcome to if you are feeling bored, seeing how long it is going to turn out.

==

the 3rd term had ended. as the end of my days in Commonwealth draws near, I cant help but feel a certain sense of nostalgia. all the friends and the memories will surely become part and parcel of me as all of us move on to the next stages in lives.

would I want to live through these four years again? very much so, but not if I am the only one around doing that. I shall be really sentimental and emo today and break up my memories into my four years there.

==

I really dont recall much of my secondary one life, but secondary one orientation did not seem that long ago. At The Beginning, the batch song, still fresh in my mind. 1/3 was a rather "international" class with quite a few nationalities. we have asians like from thailand, myanmar, philippines, china and india as well as europeans from france, and even down under from australia.

honestly speaking, the class wasnt really united in the first year, under the chairmanship of chai "screaming-and-shouting" chong keng, not that it is his fault la, more like because there is a lack of "bonding activities". I also remember it is that year that I became rather different. it is a rather difficult feeling to describe, in fact impossible, but just trust me on that la. zz.

it was a rather easy and free year, especially compared to the harsh pace in primary six. I slacked through the year and was ranked 120 in the stream. considering I did not even study and I made it in at near cut-off (it was 241 that year), that was really amazing.

==

secondary two came. IPW and NYAA are the major projects geared at making us busy. IPW was screwed right from the start thanks to a stupid choice of topic. there is really not much to talk about this unpleasant memory now, but I am really glad the group was still rather cooperative and not much "internal strife" broke out.

NYAA was still not that bad. the sec 2 NYAA camp was memorable, scrubbing mess tins like there was no tomorrow and then queueing up to see if it can pass "QC", courtesy of lim and choo. the dance thing was a total flop, and it reinforced my belief that I am hopeless in dancing.

hmm, sec 2 is the year I spent time with the gang made up of calvin, phyo, josef and chong keng. we spend time cracking dirty jokes and swearing to strip ********* and showing him how to masturbate (it is still not done). we also created some strange poem and drama during the literature class. those were the fun days.

the class also gradually bonded, especially after the teachers' day performance back then. this allowed the end of year chalet that year to happen, which I had wrote about in great detail somewhere in November 2005 and involved a major waterfight.

I did work pretty hard for my sec 2 exams, at least the EOY. I remembered mugging like a dog the day before the history exam, literally swallowing the entire "Understanding Our Past" textbook. and I got third in class for that. wee. I was really surprised when I see myself being ranked 48th in level. it got me edusave merit bursary for that year too. haha.

==

sec three was somewhat different from sec two. I entered 3/5, it is the pure biology and chemistry class. till today, I wondered if I should have chosen 3/2 (econs class). it would no doubt be a better environment, but I wondered how different my social circle would have turned out if I made a different choice then.

3/5 was the unofficially official chiobu class, the gathering of the finest our cohort can produce. as I written in a journal entry before, it was great for sightseeing of a different kind. hmm, hope no one was offended, just stating a general comment.

the downside to that would be the gender imbalance. there are 23 girls and 13 boys as of now. it used to be 24 girls and 15 boys, but amalina headed for aussie in june last year, hao cheng went to 3/1 last june too, and shawn went through a bad patch. as you can see, my class is quite small too, showing the combi's unpopularity. I personally think it is the school's pressure, as mr chan (ex HOD humans) keep telling everyone that you can still take up pure bio in JC if you want to.

the class was not what I consider united, but overall, getting some tasks done is still not that difficult. we are known for expressing extreme displeasure at teachers we do not like, a good example being aileen leong. I must say that while I do not disagree, I am not those in the front leading the pack.

the year went by quickly with plenty of tests and with a few good friends. term 3 went by the fastest, ExCEL Fest, SPOD and the school open house took up my time. the open house was the most interesting, seeing that both of my projects submitted are chosen, namely for math stories and combined humans.

my A Maths, Chemistry and E Maths were my worst subjects, chemistry and E Maths are the D7 and E8 range while A Maths was a total flop at F9. my chemistry and E Maths are now entering the C range, thank god.

==

secondary 4 was my most enjoyable year, when I made even more new friends throughout the year. whats more, they were mostly female. how fun. lol. it was indeed a year of heavy workload and tests, but because I dont take A Maths, I was thankfully relieved of most "chores" and days were really quite blissful.

because there are no CCAs and any other activities, every day was tests (mock exams mon and thu, chem tue, maths fri, CH thu) and remedials. I had no idea how I managed to sit through four tests weekly but it is all over now.

this year also showed me what is politics and bullying. at one point I was nearly involved in it but luckily pulled out in time. it is part and parcel of being ready for the future so I am alright with it.

==

prelims are halfway through, in a bit over a month O Levels will start. then all these will become a beautiful memory. when I look back at this two or three years later, I wonder how much would have changed. but I guess this cannot be answered till then.

at first I want to write about prelims and some random pics, but now no time liao, so till next time then.
