second week of semester 4810 (its just april sem 2008) has passed too.
this week really flew by like a whiff of smoke, either because I am really enjoying my time or there are so many things happening that you are looking forward to the end of the week so you can relax. I think it is more of the latter.
tuesdays and wednesdays are really mad with the tutorials, ending at 5pm and 4pm respectively. wednesday ends early purely because the two hour break on tue became one hour.
and on wednesday we go block 56 for DSS tutorial, run up to LT45 for Business Mgmt lecture and back to 56 again for DSS workshop. it is damn gay and senseless to me.
next tuesday (meaning 29th april la) is going to be godlike. I will have...
9am to 11am - BLaw tutorial (oh gawd shitty tutor. more in next post and presentation)
11am to 1pm - Macroecons make-up lecture (oh gawd no more 2h break time! no lunch!)
1pm to 3pm - BMgt tutorial (oh gawd newspaper article and learning points presentation!)
3pm to 5pm - BLaw lecture (oh gawd how to concentrate after all the above?)
6pm to 8pm - Jap B101 (oh gawd common phrases and numbers test!)
as you can see it is really going to be godlike since every presentation or test I have seems to be due on that day. and lessons will go from 9 to 4 on wednesday as usual.
I want to faint liao la knn.
and...
- I havent revised jap.
- I havent finished my tutorials from the past week.
- I havent prepared business law presentation.
- I havent found the management article.
- I havent done the bmgt learning points powerpoint.
- I havent wrote the DSS weekly group discussion report since I duno who is the new gal.
- I submitted my DSS work through email late since bloody MeL is down.
- I am supposed to help my aunt do a presentation for her missionary for vesak day too.
OMFGWTFBBQ.
procrastination really kills.
and who are the ones who said poly life is easy and slack? I want to smack him or her. and CCAs havent even started.

oh yeah had the BA envoys interview today. (fine. yesterday.)
I prepared so much for it and worried so much about it that I couldnt get proper sleep last night and was pretty groggy.
went NP pretty early to get into the mood. was only 9.15am when my interview was scheduled for 10am. mel went with me too even though she havent been getting enough sleep for the past few days. thanks dear =)
72-03-02 was the waiting room where we took our photo and filled up the envoys form (again), this time also including how we knew about envoys. I was interviewed by two girls at 72-03-03 (the other room was 03-04 with two guys).
personally I felt the scenarios part at the back went really bad. I could have said a few more things and stammered a lot less.
it somehow feels like I disappointed those who thought I could get in. myself included. I could have done much better if I was more level headed.
my gut feeling tells me its either a maybe (meaning 2nd interview) or a no. zz.
==
after that went AMK Hub to just slack around la. for those who dont know, 74 brings you to ang mo kio pretty quickly.
watched The Hottie and the Nottie. 8 days gave it two and a half stars so I wasnt going in expecting the sun and the moon.
surprisingly, it wasnt that bad. my cheap sense of humour found it quite alright. mel too. it was better than that monologue Definitely, maybe that was rated better. I think it is the level of maturity la (as in between whang yee ling of 8 days and us). we are one childish couple.
ticket prices are crazy on weekends though. $28.80 for the works. I want my student discount.
the durian pancake was really nice. worth the nearly half an hour queue. make sure you bring enough to buy at least 6 (1.50 each) to make all that queueing worthwhile.
==
okay gotta wrap up now. need to hibernate now to prepare for the lack of sleep I will be having to get all the stuff required out by tuesday.

week 1 of the April Semester 08/09 has passed. so I am now officially one of the 5100 (!) freshies over there.
usually they only take in 4300 freshies or so, then this year they decided to aggresively expand enrolment probably due to some government initiative or to suck more money out of people. most likely the latter la I think.
and so during lunchtimes, you can enjoy a wholesome lunch at any of the four wonderfully sardine-packed canteens. or join the throngs of queues at nearly everthing from photocopying to collection of ez-link cards.
I met an insane amount of people in school. from primary school all the way to new friends I just made during the two camps I had attended. then I met some more who are in my tutorial class, my IS class and tutorial class friends of my primary school friend called kah sing.
oh, tutorials havent begun. this is because in Business & Accountancy School, what they do is schedule the tutorial for a particular topic to be held the next week after its lecture. so I have only been attending lectures. and that means I havent really met my tutorial class beyond DSS workshop.
thus, I have mostly been with kah sing for the past few days. but now that tutorials are starting, I guess it is inevitable we are going on separate journeys again. do hope I can meet them often though. he and his tutorial friends are nice ppl.
as for my own tutorial class... from what I can gather from the 2 hours DSS workshop this week (my new week starts on a monday), perhaps they have not been what I had expected. but at least there are some nice ppl in there. but 来日方长 la, perhaps with knowing the class better I might just appreciate that class more..
for my modules, lectures take place in the large standalone Lecture Theatres (meaning not a classroom. for my case being LT20, 24, 28 and 45 in case you wanna know) which involves tapping your student card to mark attendance. unfortunately it uses the same technology as ez-link so you have to hide your card somewhere in your bag instead of leaving it in your wallet.
each lecture has nearly 300 people and if you end up not concentrating, probably no one will notice or even give a shit. and many ppl sure dont concentrate. guess I must improve in this aspect if I do not intend to waste the 1000 over dollars I pay per semester.
other than the lectures, my tutorials take place at the classrooms in block 72 and IS lessons at block 56. next week is going to my first time attending tutorials of my modules at block 72. things are finally starting to get busy..
japanese lessons are quite fun. seriously. the people in my class are nice as well. yay. must practice hard for hiragana. haha.
okay enough morsels about school for the time being I guess. after I meet my tutors, I will give a quick summary of my various lecturers and tutors next week. probably on the weekend again.
other than kah sing, I had been spending quite some time with a particular someone for the past week too. actually the few weeks before also la if you had been reading my blog. I am sure you people can infer the relationship lah hor.
she's melissa. no not melissa from commonwealth. she was from westwood secondary. and currently in NP as well. met her at my workplace, so it is not like I hitched her on the first day of school. guess that is all I have to make public. you want further details you can ask me I guess? lol.
so back to topic. I have been meeting her nearly daily for the past week too. even though it took a great deal of waiting and coordinating for it to be possible. on some days the meetings may have been really short, meaningless or even boring, but I nevertheless enjoyed whatever time I spent with her.
the journey may not have been far yet, but there were already some ups and downs, especially for the past week when school reopened. and I realised along the way I might have hurt you some way or another. and I would really like to apologise for that. but I hope this would serve to strengthen our bond and make us love each other even more =)
alright. gotta help my aunt with vesak day preparations for SBYM later today. so signing off now. just a quick reminder to finish your tutorial homework in time for the start of tutorials next week. lol.

now for BAoc Day 3
it was really convention day. started the day with lunch with groupmates at 11 plus. assembled outside the main convention hall to prepare for cheers. finally ushered in at 12.30 or so.
turns out we are sitting on the floor so that there would be space for cheers and mass dance later. leg numbing experience indeed.
pageant walk-in... in superhero costumes. that sounded more and more like a fetish the more I think about it.
then its performance by first four groups. our group did a simulation of street fighters with superheroes, with the X-Men side winning all the time. for "no matter what, X-men will still win!" and x-men is my group. lol.
I cant remember the full details now, but in that same segment, another group's performance involved a lot of dancing and lacked story. thus it sucked compared to other groups who managed to blend humour with story and dance.
yet another group had Batman vs "Mas Scofield" (double pun on Singapore's Mas Selamat's prison break and TV show Prison Break's Michael Scofield). this one was hilarious.
they fought for 3 rounds, with which two rounds is fought by their sidekicks. in the first round, it was scissors paper stone between doraemon and something scissorhands. the winner is stupidly obvious.
second round involved teletubbies' Po and Kermit. I forgot what they played, but in the end kermit literally hopped off the stage while Po went "again! again!" ala teletubbies style and chased after him, hugging him as he jumped off the stage.
third round was just plain fighting cum dancing. finally batman wins 50 thousand singapore dollars for catching mas scolfield for him to "zhng" his batmobile.
I remembered this performance well cos wei hao from CSS was acting as mas scofield. haha.
speaking of CSS people. a lot of them seems to be acting. wenbin was in the skit by teen titans and reuben was a dancer in another.
even marcus and kai jun from zeta 4 was performing in spiderman's show. I am surrounded by enthu ppl OMG.
then we have pageant contestants in evening wear. then they did Q&A. nothing fancy here, except one of the guys said he wanted to see as many pretty girls as possible if it was the last day he gets to live. and people screaming "my face!" (as in the contestant) when asked what would be the one thing about herself she would like to change.
then its an intermission for refrshments. two overly sweet cups of fruit punch later it was back to performances.
this segment was even better. first was a parody of the idol franchise "so you think you are fantastic?" (title is a spoof of so you think you can dance? and their grp is fantastic 4) with host ryan son of muthusamy daughter of mumbai and judges paula abdullah, simon cobweb and the fatman.
it showed 3 contestants, one of which was iceman "surfing" in, dragged on a pushcart by a "driver". his talent was telling cold jokes. (what do you call a deer with no eye? no eye-deer! haha. ... ... ...)
whats funny is not the performance but their parody of the idiosyncracies of the judges and the sikh host who really had an indian accent.
then we had teen titans playing 挤牛奶 and a girl claiming she has more 奶 than the guy she lost to. that is the only part I remember cos it was so candid.
spiderman gave a mime about spiderman saving mary jane through fighting ppl like green goblin. quite well done.
superman combined technology and show, using bits of the trailer to represents parts they could not act out (like flying). it was quite funny, but I thought batman's was the best. oh well.
then its cheer competition. we got best cheer woo.
then party time is lame. it is probably just an excuse for them to avoid a logistical nightmare of needing to send everyone out slowly and orderly. everyone took photos and I left after that to meet someone at canteen 1.
then we went vivo. nothing much to talk about here lah. but I thought it was the most interesting outing so far cos she was more cheerful and relaxed yesterday. that should be the way actually. haha. hope you like the plushie =)
when I reached home it was about 11.50pm. I was really quite tired and ended up falling asleep chatting halfway at 1am or so =x
ok gotta go for gerald's wedding now. I will try to take some pictures. and maybe post them up. provided they turn out good. haha.

BAoc Day 2 is out too.
today was a lot better than yesterday. for me, all of the guys and most of the girls were nice people. if this is the kind of group I got for the 4D3N NPSU FOC I am sure I would have enjoyed that camp a lot more too.
not to discredit Zeta 4 lah, but with 40 persons and a whole spectrum of personalities to deal with, it just doesnt feel as comfortable as being in X-Men 6.
I am sure a lot of people are going to disagree with me on this but hey, its my own opinion. dont shoot me. *picks up flameshield*
today was games in noon and a lot of performances and CCA presentations in the morning. the morning stuff was just as standard as yesterday so I will just pick on the CCAs part.
interesting to know there are CCAs like NP Ambassadors and BA Envoys. I think I may join either of them. going out promoting NP or NP School of BA to younger sec/pri students just seems fun.
games involved much less water and is much less dirty. the group's willingness to cooperate really showed here. but with only 13 persons (7 girls 6 guys) I guess that wasnt hard to begin with.
we had this super interesting cheer.
we are the x. we are the men. we are x-men 6
we will fight. we will kill. we are here to fight and kill
we will fight, kill, fight, kill, fight kill, fight kill, fight kill
fight, kill, fight, kill, fight kill, fight kill, fight kill!
the fight kill fight kill chant is done to the rhythm of the 11 claps if you know what is it. so at the back it sounded a lot like a familiar swear word since it was chanted so quickly.
whats more we do the cheer with wolverine's trademark claws, or the "read between the lines" sign, whichever is more familiar to you.
I thought poison balls was most fun. it is a modified version of that cramming-everyone-onto-as-little-chairs-as-possible-while-you-bring-vacant-chairs-in-front-to-move-forward game. as you can see I dont know its actual name. however, instead of competing to cross the finish line, you collect as many balls lying on the floor as possible instead.
we also played charades, an obstacle course and a game where groups take turns to pour water into a jar and the group that causes the water to overflow meets a watery end. and also that tie one ballon to one leg and the other leg to a partner game. all the very standard station games you have come to expect lah.
actually they intended to teach us mass dance too. but, after scores tabulation and verification of scavenger hunt items, it was already 5.5opm. the schedule set out that to start 5.30pm and everyone assumed break camp would be at 6pm. and so everyone was really restless and unwilling to learn and ignored the guy teaching.
after some hesitation, they decided to just let us off at about 6.15pm since most of us cant be bothered trying to dance in such cramped conditions. even the convention centre also cannot hold the entire School of BA properly. that is a good thing for me lah. I dont really care about that dance anyway.
performers and pageant contestants stayed till 6pm yesterday. today they will be staying till 8pm. tomorrow they will report by 10am. I am so thankful I am not either of them. woohoo. my reporting time was supposed to be 11.30am, but my SB (is that what they are called?) suggested having lunch together at 11am. so yup.
looking forward to tomorrow. all there is left is the performances and the pageant and the cheer competition. if they dont bring up mass dance again the only chore would be the party time, which they promised isnt as crazy as FOC's.
but doesnt that mean it is still crazy? only not as much? dot.

BAoc Day 1 over.
lets see what happened. registration, goodie bag collection, (rushed) icebreakers, (rushed) mass dance training, (even more rushed and giam siap) refreshments, plenty of intro speeches and performances at convention center. tata.
so you can see nothing really much happened today. about my OG, X-Men 6, the people are the more moderately enthusiastic kind, which is good in a way. but, that means everyone is mingling in their own cliques or whatever.
it is already sad enough that there are only 7 guys (6 after one whom I doubt is coming back tomorrow left). yet we dont mingle as an entire group. especially since one of the guys coming in later actually knew another guy (and 2 girls) quite well and stuck to their own world.
that leaves us with 10 girls in the group. looking at the make up of every other group, there is really more girls than guys in School of BA. and in fact most of them look okay enough. the only bad thing is they keep to themselves. adding on to the fact that the pittance of guys are not united, what is left is a very fragmented group.
at least it is a lot more comfortable being in a 16 or 17 member group than one with 40. whats more there are 5 GLs per group, not 3. that is like a GL for every 3 participants.
okay lah I run through fast fast.
icebreakers are icebreakers loh. standard one. played double whacko for the hundred millionth time, only this time the person in front shouted the name instead. before that was cat and mouse.
only had time for this two games since we spent some time learning a few cheers and also to learn the mass dance. cheers was a mad scramble as we learnt about 6 cheers and went through them only once without confirming understanding. the mass dance session was rushed just like the cheers segment. but since it is only the first 3 sets, at least I managed to catch something.
collected t-shirts. one for sports & wellness (dry fit and dark blue. beautiful) and the other green one for BAoc (not so bad). the refreshment was a joke with one chun juan looking apple pie and a mini banana cake and a 5ooml bottle of mineral water. it is so bad that I am not going to dwell on it.
then went convention centre to see welcome video by various BA staff, performances by baracuda (again?) and song composing club and introductions to the most important functions in NPal and MeL.
after that went to meet her after an abrupt change in meeting place. all I shall say was it wasnt really all that great. all the lack of sleep must have really taken a toll. sore eyes, headache, stomachache. duno when will I see the healthy and jumpy her again. oh well.
day 2 starts tomorrow and a lot of people are already evaluating the prospect of poning it. me too. but I think I will still go lah. even if just for the sake of going. and maybe cos I too used to being guai. haha.
lets see what happened. registration, goodie bag collection, (rushed) icebreakers, (rushed) mass dance training, (even more rushed and giam siap) refreshments, plenty of intro speeches and performances at convention center. tata.
so you can see nothing really much happened today. about my OG, X-Men 6, the people are the more moderately enthusiastic kind, which is good in a way. but, that means everyone is mingling in their own cliques or whatever.

I am currently panicking at home. and so I am gonna revisit the BAoc again.
the School of BA orientation camp starts tomorrow. apparently for day 1 there is only one and a half hours of icebreakers right at the start and everything from then till 3pm is just for listening to briefings and introductions.
but the one and a half hour of icebreakers are scary. I sure as hell dont feel like playing whacko or double whacko or any other variation of that lame game for the umpteenth time. though if they are playing the knot of arms I dont mind. lol.
according to what I read, School of BA is supposed to be oestrogen overload. but from my personal experience, with 5 out of 6 BA members from my OG being guys, I cant be too sure.
there is really nobody I know that is in my group. not even on the forums. so I am really going to be knowing everyone from scratch. a simple division gives about 15 to 16 members per OG which I find much much more manageable than the 40 I had with NPSU FOC. hope that translates to a more bonded group.
oh, it is a day camp. but seeing that we need to come up with a performance by day 3 and that there is a pageant, I believe time outside of the 3pm or 6pm break camp times would need to be used for planning them.
I am hoping the camp wont drag tomorrow since I have plans to go out with somebody after her camp. that is my main concern other than the icebreakers. I miss her a lot sia. havent had a proper chat for the past few days thanks to events ranging from irritating sleeping areas to irritating SLs. hope next on the list wont be irritating performance. zzz.
what a whiner post. and I still dont feel better. waste of bandwidth. haha.

I am posting from NP's Lien Ying Chow Library after sending someone off for her division camp. its for three days okay. must find random entertainment for the next few days liao or I will cry myself to sleep. ok lol I am exaggerating.
anyway back to the LYC Library. it is the school library la, but this person contributed a huge sum of money into either its building (since he is a co-founder of NP) or refurbishing so they decided to name the library after him.
the library is quite nice actually, spanning four storeys from the 2nd to the 5th level of the Admin Block (Block 1). the 2nd storey is the lifestyle library while the 3rd to 5th are the academic libraries and the discussion rooms. they should have provided a lift. hmm.
the 2nd storey is relatively new, compared to the other levels. think they specially spent some time refurbishing it. there is an internet cafe here with computer terminals as well as individual and group discussion tables, all with power plugs for laptops.
there is also a bubble tea shop that sells cup noodles as well. the environment is great and the aircon is cooling. it is a great place to hang out man. but it is already half full during holidays. it must be totally full during term time. zz.
another reason why I like the library is cos you can surf wirelessly with the NPNet (the school's wireless network) in aircon. and this is the kind of speeds you would be expecting. note that there are plenty of people around me surfing right now as well.

unbelievable.

the NP Student Union's FOC (freshmen orientation camp) is over for a week plus and I am still lazy to blog about it. nothing to be surprised about la. I havent even blogged about prom night or even the O Levels lol. I shall do those few mundane posts another time and blog about my new-school-in-a-week-plus instead.
but a short mention first la. I didnt exactly find FOC super great since there are like 40 people in each OG (that is 160 people in each family!) and also that my OG, ζπ4 (thats Zeta Pi 4) is quite cliqued. but hey, at least I knew some people.
in the meantime if you want detailed blow by blow accounts of the entire camp. you can go look at weilei's blog. it is pretty detailed.

and so I should have been to ngee ann nearly 10 times ever since I am enrolled here. lets see.
1st with melissa, li hong and wei yuan for notebook purchase
2nd with wei lei and mx for course-specific software install and buying laptop respectively
3rd with melissa and li hong for miscellaneous forms
4th for the NPSU FOC (and that is 4D3N straight)
8th (timeskip for 4 days!) for software installation and general exploration
9th for today
that is a lot of times for a freshie who havent even started school! now I know where are the LTs and classrooms and miscellaneous rooms that are important to me already.
frankly NP is pretty big. walking to the sports complex or kismis field from the entrance at 10 plus can make you break out in sweat. the school building is unevenly developed, from the sparkling centrepiece of the school, the convention centre, to the sports complex that looks like it was untouched since the 1980s when the building is built on a budget.
you can also notice the different stages of modernisation among the schools. the green plaza in the empty space between the School of ICT and the EE division of School of Engineering and the main lobbies of School of BA and HMS are the better examples while the ME & MDE division of School of Engineering lies on the other end of the spectrum.
but I guess we can't blame anyone lah. it takes time and money (and plenty of it considering the campus size) to upgrade stuff and thus they will take greater care of the entrances more than the rest since it is where furthest prospective students, their parents and visitors would go.
you should really take a look at the library if you are here.
==
I got my timetable too. if you are a freshie in NP, go fetch your own from NPal or the Student Portal. you can more or less figure out what all the acronyms mean if you match them to your course structure page.
apparently I am not in the same class as anyone I knew so far. it will take an incredible amount of luck to be in the same class as the few ppl I know with a total intake of 430 for my course anyway.
and at least my timetable is still quite identical to someone's. so its not all bad. I think its possible to at least meet once or twice weekly during the school term in campus. haha.
anyway, it starts at 9 on all days except fridays at 10. the ending times vary. 1pm for mon and thu, 3pm on fridays, 4pm on wednesday and 5pm on tuesday (!). breaks vary from 1 to 2 hours. some days there are not even breaks since there is a 4 hour marathon of lectures and tutorials.
onto the lessons. looks like I will be learning macroeconomics, POA, business law, business management and spreadsheets for the first semester. thats all. 24 hours worth of lectures and tutorials per week (including 4h for IS modules) and thats it! I am sure my timetable was longer even in sec 1.
I am not in the same OG for my BAoc as anyone I know too. it is (yet another) new beginning!
==
by the way, the BAoc schedule is atrocious. here you go. it is for Business Studies since the orientation starts at different times for different courses on day 1 it seems.
imagine a welcome speech on the admin field (that is the big field near cheers you see when you pop in by the entrance along clementi road) and an e-portal demo (is the screen on the field? isnt it too bright?), and then rushing all the way to the OTHER end of the school at kismis field for a 10 mins performance.
and there is a mass dance out of nowhere with party time right at the end of day 3 when we are not even taught the dance. and party time brings back horrible memories of the 3rd night of NPSU FOC.
okay enough whining. I cant wait to see what kind of stuff I am getting myself into with the BAoc FOC. I think. oh yeah.

the new school semester is coming and I really hope that I will be meeting good people and making new friends. I am sure everyone attending poly is wishing for the same as well. I shall end off this NP-ridden entry with a cliche all the best. to my old and new friends, lets continue to remain in contact alright? =)
