a letter I sent to HP regarding the servicing of my notebook.
==
Hi Desmond here. I acquired this Presario V2000 series notebook from a joint HP-StarHub Promotion in December 2005.
Since I got it in January until now, I found the notebook to be a handy companion on my trips with its relatively light weight and small form factor. Its design is also refreshing and elegant compared to some of the other notebooks on the market.
However, I had faced several problems on the notebook which I thought will go away with time but did not happen.
One of the most severe ones would be the extremely flimsy hinge of the screen. When I am typing on the notebook keyboard, the screen is so loose that the panel practically shook along with my every keystroke. Even when I am surfing the net on the notebook with a fan spinning at lowest speed, the same thing still happens.
At first, I thought it is probably a design defect of the series, but when I compared my screen hinge to another V2000 my friend owns, I noticed his is much more stable than mine.
I am rather surprised and disturbed by the inconsistent workmanship of a similar model of notebook from a well-known company with a proven track record in computing products.
Another issue would be on the battery life. I understand that Turion 64 based notebooks consumes slightly more power than their Intel siblings, but I am appalled when I noted the battery life to be only nearly two hours with only surfing with wi-fi on.
Even with the various tweaks recommended by HP on screen brightness and power options as well as various tweaks I found, I only managed to bring the battery life to slightly over 2 hours.
I am wondering whether this is due to the technical nature of the product or is it simply another flaw on my notebook. If the former applies, I am pretty affected by the portability of the notebook and I hope HP could do something about this.
These problems affected the way I used the notebook and considering the notebook is still covered by the warranty, I am wondering if I could send the notebook to HP to perform any required servicing and enhancements. If it is possible, may I also know how should I go about packing it for delivery to HP.
Thank you for your help.
