Phyo and Bahari dropping by

Monday, December 12, 2005

(Post date edited to reflect date of event)

today is the day when phyo brought his notebook with an almost dead battery (that lasts at most 15 minutes) over for some routine maintanence work. he decided to invite bahari along as well to erm..offer technical advice.

they arrived at around 11.05AM. phyo called me twice without me realising since the phone is in silent mode. I only went down after I took a look at the phone at around 11.20AM.

I brought them up and we started with all the connetion of wires and booting up the notebook. I took out the rather newly bought cross ethernet cable and connected it from his notebook to my computer.

the cable was bought last friday when bahari suggested using that as the method to transfer files between the computers.

however, setting up isnt as simple as plug and play. when I checked the Network Places tab, nothing is shown! then began the process of verifying domains, testing netsends, numerous reboots and reconnecting of cables, all to no avail.

we then left that aside and phyo insisted we watch American Pie's Band Camp. yes the M18 one. it is real boring since I watched it before. zz.

one and a half hours later, we are back to work. we used USB drives since we cant get the darned cable to work. it is real slow with only two files at once. bahari suddenly reminded me whether any firewalls are running.

I finally discovered what is wrong. THE DARN FIREWALLS ARE ENABLED. so I had to disable all of them and we finally could transfer the files over LAN and saving us lots of trouble.

after backing up. we got into formatting. phyo wanted to use recovery disks so it is a no-brainer from there onwards. and we started to watch American Pie, thanks to phyo's again. what a bugger.

phyo watched the movie while bahari and I worked on the notebook. he only needed a few essentials to be installed so the formatting and installation part is done quickly.

the burning of files to DVDs are done quickly as well. 20 minutes is rather fast for nearly 10GB of files.

and by then it is 6.45PM or something and they all headed home. and I had to clean up all the mess.
